I’ve started watching the documentary, The Power of Nightmares [1], [2], which broadcast on the BBC on 18 January 2005. It’s just arrived at Netflix.
I’ll hold comment on the documentary as a whole until i’ve seen all of it, but so far it’s been extremely insightful and informative as to why, among other things, the GOP has wandered so far from traditional conservative values and into religious fanaticism, demagoguery and nationalist jingoism. It’s not a judgmental approach either; it simply identifies the influences, events and people that have landed the GOP where it is now.

ARGH! I’m listening to the debate right now. Mc Cain, aka: Grampy Mc Crankypants, has once again touted the benefits of nuclear power and the fact that oil prices are high because of demand.
STOP IT. JUST FUCKING STOP IT, ALL OF YOU.
I am so tired of your fucking lies. I am tired of your corporate cock sucking. I am sick and tired to the depths of the marrow in my bones of your goddamned deliberate ignorance and stupidity.
Let’s start with nuclear power. You don’t just slap some radioactive rods together in some water and hope the turbine spins. It takes concrete, steel, plumbing that defies most imaginations, multi-million dollar control and monitor systems, years of planning, excavations, engineers, architects by the busload, welders and of course, right at the end, some rods that when put together, are as hot as the surface of a gentle star.

According to CNN, a Hillary Clinton supporter, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, has decided to swing her support from Sen. Clinton to Sen. John McCain. Her reason?
“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don’t like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”
He’s an elitist? Let’s examine this, shall we?
Raised in a single parent household versus coming from an aristocratic house where the parent and one grandparent are admirals. Verdict: FAIL.
Owns a home versus someone who owns 10 homes/ properties. Verdict: FAIL.

Once upon a time journalism was about investigation and reporting. Once upon a time people could go to their news source for actual news. Of course this all had to be changed so that news could turn a profit. To that end, Bill Clinton signed off on deregulating media outlets. And now we all know that with more news sources for sale within one market, no one would be so unethical to buy multiple outlets let alone force their ideology and drive for profits onto those markets.
Well, right wing ideologues cried “foul” for decades, blaming all their woes upon a “liberal media”. Never mind that by its nature, liberal is also related to concepts such as “liberty” and by extension, freedom [for this concept in action, ponder that the United States liberated Europe from conservative fascists in the 1940's].
I’m also tempted to point out the fallacy between what The Commons are versus the concept of socialism. That commentary will have to wait a while however.
