  • modern educators

I’m sitting in on a meeting of educators this morning as they discuss engaging the seniors at our school in the seminar they have to present before they can graduate. One of them mentions a reality that resonated with me, “…and we have to watch to see that they don’t become frustrated and shut down.”

There probably isn’t any other phrase in my educational experience that describes me. Wait, there is one more: “He becomes bored easily and daydreams often.” But i digress.

  • jarheadian jones escapades, part deux

Until recently i had believed that Austin’s favorite cocaine fueled paranoid sociopath*, Alex Jones, had given up on living on the backs of the weak minded, ignorant and racist flock that followed him. This is mostly due to the fact i live half a continent away from Austin. As it turns out, i was wrong- in fact, Jarhead Jones is still around and apparently richer than ever from his crockumentaries and his fleecing his flock of their money.

  • be proud, white pride

    I'm a mavrik !
    I'm a mavrik ! How about you?

A few days ago i posted this image of a group of white people at a house, showing off their Confederate flag (what i’ve heard some call The Traitor’s Flag) with signs in their yard that read [sic], “I’m a mavrik” and [sic] “socialest”. The former, presumably being a reference to the bold souls that wrote this sign and the latter being a reference to President Obama. And while it’s possible they’re maverick’s in illiteracy, chances are these are just a group of ignorant, angry and possibly inbred twats.

  • marriage is between one man and one woman… unless…

In years past, i didn’t use synaesthetic as a place to vent only my political views. But since i’ve started from scratch a few weeks ago, it seems that my focus has been more on politics and social commentary instead of introspection, as it was for most of the time.

I did not always have the opinion i now have regarding “gay rights”. I’ll explain the quotes later. Years ago i remember telling someone that gays didn’t get rights because they were an invisible minority and any discrimination they encountered could only be because they decided to let people know they had ‘teh gay’.

It was immature, anti-democratic and it was a small minded, bigoted view that was in direct contradiction to my spiritual beliefs as a Christian. But it would take some time, introspection and maturity to realize that.

  • the fifteen year nap

In the early to mid nineties something profoundly bad happened to me. The worst aspect of it was that i was never there to see it and it’s effect on me was so gradual that it was undetectable. I started snoring loudly in the early to mid 90’s. I worked at a semiconductor company at the time and there were days when i simply fell asleep while staring in the microscope that i was stationed at. At the time i thought it was because i was living in a house with no air conditioning and that heat was the reason i was constantly tired.

In a larger context, i was falling asleep.

It would be 15 years later, and i would be 41 years old before i woke up.

  • Gubbunur Goodhair’s oppressive white wing nutjobbery

Even halfway across the continent, Texans continue to embarrass me. It was bad enough when the anti intellectual, drug addled, jingoistic, nationalist and revisionist George Bush claimed that Texas was his home [in fact, the Bush family is from Connecticut and has ties to – i’m sorry to say – Maine]. Now Governor Rick Perry has shown how far Texan politicians have fallen. How did we get from Sam Rayburn and Jake Pickle and Lyndon Johnson to this turd? Oh yeah, that ever prevailing belief by those undisturbed by facts that somehow government is a bad thing, so we have to vote for people who think government is a bad thing, so that we can show the world how bad government is.

  • and now, a moment of schadenfreude

I have an add-on for Firefox called Stumbleupon. You make an account (free), tell it what your interests are, install the toolbar and once you’ve restarted Firefox, you click the “Stumble!” button and it will send you to a random website based on your interests. I highly suggest it to anyone who has an interest in anything.

Now and then, i come across some tepid attempt at mediocrity trying to pass itself off as ‘art’. In reality it’s usually someone who indulges in what can be described, at best, as masturbatory, flat, poorly composed and incomplete illustrations. Some of it is manga based images, some of it tries very hard to be ‘edgy art’ that is the direct result of someone who thinks because they can draw in some sort of ephemeral style in a notebook, they all of a sudden have artistic license.

  • why i won’t shop at China Mart

On Facebook, i commented that i will not shop at Wal Mart, under any circumstance. A former co-worker, also tech savvy, commented that if i limited my choices to buying things not made in China, i wouldn’t have much to choose from.

And he’s correct. But it got me thinking- how is it that i rationalize buying some things from China from somewhere like Newegg but i treat companies like Wal Mart as a metastasized cancer tumor [which, by the way, they are] ?

  • to the three yammering fundies at the borders

This goes out to the three hyenas that were a paltry 12 feet away from my girlfriend and me as we tried enjoying some coffee and reading time at the Borders in Gresham this Saturday.

Dear ladies, i just wanted to let you know how much i appreciated having my ability to read and the conversations i tried having with my girlfriend interrupted by your absolutely insane, banal, DSM-IV quality fundamentalist ramblings. Yes, i’m genuinely sorry that you know someone who is having a drinking problem, but i want to gently contradict your analysis that the cause is, as you put it, “Satan, who hates all souls” forcing him to drink. I’d like to offer another, more plausible, explanation.

  • another beginning

    Sigh.

All i wanted to do was move the journal to a different directory. It shouldn’t be hard but apparently it is. I ended up breaking the entire thing.

I wanted to spend more time trying to fix it and i had a pretty good idea of where the problem was. Unfortunately it required skills i don’t have [yet] like how to edit SQL tables through the admin tool.
